The state's mining activity also represents 4 percent of its GDP, according to INEGI. Chihuahua's mining production is the third largest in Mexico, and it occupies second place in silver and lead production, third place in zinc, fourth in copper production and fifth in gold production.

In 2013, mining companies operating in Chihuahua established the Chihuahua Mining Cluster to foster a mining-friendly environment in the state. The cluster aims to develop the mining industry, boost the economy, and create jobs. Since then, the sector has created 20,493 direct jobs.
